The Tableau of Love
Unexhibited
Love is a boundless current that flows through the very fabric of time. “The Tableau of Love” is a collection that emerges from the heart of the romantic tale of Varqa and Golshāh, a treasured work of Seljuk-era Iranian miniature painting, and is subsequently re-created in a new, contemporary format. These works are not mere reproductions, but a visual dialogue between the past and the present, between tradition and modernity.
In these pieces, the collage technique serves as a metaphor for an interwoven memory. Fragments of the ancient miniatures, like precious stone chips, have been unearthed from the soil of time and placed alongside free-flowing, abstract textures and colors. These paintings act as bridges between yesterday and today; a space where the spontaneous movement of color and texture settles upon the structure of the ancient depictions, bringing an unfinished narrative to completion. This collection is the result of a visual study of the Varqa and Golshāh miniatures. The aim was not to reconstruct, but to establish a visual dialogue between the elements of these miniatures and a contemporary expression using the techniques of collage and acrylic. In this process, the classic motifs of miniature painting are separated from their original context and placed in a new, abstract space to allow for different interpretations. These works emphasize the continuity of Iranian visual culture and demonstrate how elements of an ancient masterpiece can find new meaning within an abstract and modernist artistic framework.
