Abstract :
Iranian art has consistently been both influential and influenced. At times, this influence has guided it toward transcendence, and at other times, toward decline. This article attempts to address the question of whether Iranian artists maintained sanctity/respect in their imagery following the advent of Islam in Iran. Furthermore, it fundamentally investigates the root and nature of this sanctity and whether or not painting and imagery were prohibited in Islam.
